Smashbox Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15

Liquid foundations and I don’t seem to agree with each other. I like natural finishes, but all the liquid foundations I’ve tried left me looking cakey, like I was wearing a mask. So I thought that I’d try a tinted moisturizer as a base beneath my mineral foundation (which is mostly sheer) to get better, natural coverage. Cash-wise, Smashbox Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 ($30) is the best deal at Sephora, so I picked it up.

You get 1.7 ounces for $30, which is not bad at all. That sounds crazy, but it’s true. Most liquid foundations charge you at least $36 for 1 ounce (Clinique is so far the only exception I’ve seen). But Smashbox is a better deal in any case. It comes in a squeeze tube, so you can control exactly how much product you get. Nothing is more obnoxious than a liquid foundation with a pump- you always end up wasting it.

I really, really like this!! A nice, lighter alternative to heavy liquid foundations. You get light coverage with this, but it blends smoothly into your skin and looks absolutely light and natural. I’d consider this more of a ‘primer’ to mineral powders, like my Jane Iredale or Bare Escentuals. It covers my large pores on my nose, helps lessen the appearance of my blemishes and gives me a more even skintone. Smells a touch like sunscreen, but it really doesn’t have a scent. Even in the unbearable heat of this desert I live in, I don’t have problems with this tinted moisturizer sliding or melting off my face. It doesn’t make me oily or break out in the slightest. It doesn’t highlight the dry patches of my skin!! Gives me really nice moisture.

This has my seal of approval! However, since it only gives light coverage, when I pair it underneath my Jane Iredale powder I still only get a light, almost-medium coverage. But it’s still too light for when I want flawless-looking skin, so I’ll have to keep looking at liquid foundations. But this is wonderful for everyday use!
