Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss

Hourglass doesn’t have a large selection of products, so I’ve never payed much attention to it. Also, what products they do have seem to have this weird shine to it, and I was a little apprehensive about trying it. But in the end I picked up their Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss and gave it a try.

First of all, it’s priced worse than a brand name gloss. You only get .12 ounces for $28! Even Dior gives you more product for that kind of money! I mean, that’s really bad if companies like Dior and Givenchy are more price-efficient. So you aren’t getting a lot for your money by any means. It comes in 11 different colors, but they’re mostly sheer.

I tried it in ‘Origami’, which looks like a bubblegum pink. This is a really odd gloss. It’s super sticky and thick, which wasn’t a plus. The pink color look funny, like it wasn’t really a pink gloss. The ‘opulent shine’ that the company raves about make all the colors look off! Reminds me off that glossy shine on a puddle of oil, where you can see a rainbow shine to it. You know what I mean? It has that kind of rainbow shine to it. Is not flattering on pale skintones!!! Would probably look great on dark skintones, but definitely not mine. Even the pale bubblegum pink was too wrong for me.

After a very short while, the gloss faded off and didnt leave but a small sticky trace behind. Lasts even shorter than the MAC Dazzleglass, which lasts only about an hour! Constant touch-ups are required with this gloss. Really, the only good thing I can say about this gloss is that it made my lips feel moisturized and didn’t highlight my chaps. But it’s not worth the price you pay, and the color is SO different. Even though Hourglass claims their Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss is one-of-a-kind, I know for a fact that LORAC has a really similar gloss caled the Multiplex 3D Lip Gloss. The Multiplex 3D gloss has a lot more shimmer and is more sheer than the Hourglass gloss, but it has that same rainbow, oil-slick shine to it. I’m not fond of either of them, to say the least.
